Units come in flat-painted through to high-gloss finishes, with black appliances adding a real sense of drama.
• Flood the room with light
A black kitchen needs careful lighting. Ideally you'll have big windows, which will flood the space with natural light. If not, then budget for task and mood lighting, as well as central pendants.
• Keep it clean
If you go for black-gloss units or appliances, you'll need to buff regularly with a cloth to keep the surfaces smear-free.
• Choose contrasting worktops
Worktops should provide contrast – rich wood, white or stainless steel all work well.
